THE WHO STAND UP TO CANCER

At the beautiful Porchester Hall in Bayswater, west London this evening lucky Who fan club members were treated to probably the shortest, but one of the most exhilarating of Who gigs.

The band played a three-song medley of ‘Baba O’Riley’ ‘See Me, Feel Me’ and ‘Listening to You’ and were filmed for inclusion of the closing part of the Stand Up To Cancer telethon due for broadcast across the US this Friday 5th September and broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 on 17th October.

We were treated to three full plays of the medley, each slightly different and to be honest I couldn’t tell you which was the best. Probably the third time around, I reckon. Both Roger and Pete in excellent voice, Pete in his woolly beanie hat and playing his red Strat and Roger sporting some rather fine beginnings of a beard. Who fans will be delighted to hear that Zak was in the drum seat showing off his new strawberry blonde Beatle hair style and a sailor suit very reminiscent of his God father Keith. Not only were The Who touring band on stage but also about sixteen or so backing singers including Billy Nicholls who added plenty of voice to the ‘Listening To You’ section of the medley.

During the filming a neon baton created by Siemens was passed through the crowd. Whenever anyone so much as touched it, a dollar was donated by Siemens to the charity. Or as Pete put it, “Once any of you even touch it, you’ll then belong to ME!!”
