Simon Townshend in Conversation with TheWho.com
Last week we resumed our series of interviews with various members of The Who family and crew with a very special guest, Simon Townshend. Simon very kindly came in and spoke for about an hour with thewho.com’s web master, Richard Evans and talked at great length about many things including growing up in such a famous family and of being the younger brother of ‘Big T’, his solo career, his involvement in joining The Who touring band and his delight in having one of his very own songs appear on the new Who studio album. He also answered a slew of questions from Who fans here on our website forum.
Huge thanks to Simon for such an enjoyable interview.

Really great. Thanks
Great interview Simon xx
I have the 45 RPM single for I’m the Answer from 1982. Nice haircut on the sleeve Simon! Brings back great memories from those days!
What a great conversation! Thanks to both of you!

I’ve been a fan since your show at the Ritz in NYC for Sweet Sound! Haven’t seen you live since then. Can’t wait.

What a lovely man.
A special warm kind and hard rock n roller of a man. My time’s with Si have meant the world to me. He has made myself and my wife feel special and like family. I can only say we love him on stage with The Who, but miss the show’s with a small crowd and the interaction afterwards with him and his friends, Like Bob K. Please “Come Back” to the states and play for us all soon.
Very delightful insight by Simon. As stated he is a secret weapon for the band on stage! I have seen five shows with him performing. Most memorable with Roger in Norfolk VA and while in third row that evening had great eye contact jamming to ‘I can see for Miles’ – also he performed/sang ‘Going Mobile’ most admirably that evening.
Thanks for your contributions to The Who and your solo work!
Where is Pete??? Please come to the states!
Great interview. Hope one day he can convince Pete and Roger to play ‘Goin’ Mobile’ and ‘Break the News’ . Also ‘I am the Answer’, ‘Palace in the Air’ or ‘Sorry’ are really good songs. The Who should try to play a completely “left turn show” playing only few of the overplayed hits and more rarities, solo or never played songs.
I am very lucky to own your first two LPs. they are really good.
“Break the News” is my wife’s favorite track from WHO. Congrats Simon, on your awesome track. You are a great performer and songwriter. Saw you at “Drew’s House” private concert. I was glued to your every word!!
