Pete Townshend has created a new orchestral version of one of The Who’s landmark albums – QUADROPHENIA. The new incarnation of this classic rock opera is the latest chapter in Townshend’s lifelong mission to break the three-minute mould of the traditional pop song and take rock music to a higher artistic level. In the 1960s he defined the concept of the ‘rock opera’ with TOMMY, taking it a stage further with QUADROPHENIA. Conceived and written by Pete in 1973, QUADROPHENIA went on to become an iconic feature film.

The new ‘symphonised’ version of QUADROPHENIA, an album originally released by The Who in 1973, was orchestrated by Rachel Fuller, a professional composer, orchestrator and singer-songwriter. It will be released by Deutsche Grammophon next summer with a world premiere concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 5 July 2015, starring Pete Townshendand Alfie Boe – who sings the parts originally sung by Roger Daltrey. Performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Oriana Choir conducted by Robert Ziegler.

Congratulations Pete, and Rachel awesome news you are featured in this project. I know a bit delayed, but now you guys got it ready. And so it is, Quadrophenia’s wonderful Odyssey continues, as it grows in original and wonderful ways. I reread the amazing book that came with the rerelease in 2012, better second read. That said, Pete you are a very complicated guy, and thus all these great works, but Keith Moon is your brother, so maybe a bit less on the chaos part, and more on the talent part. From my view and listen as a fan, he is AMAZING in Quadrophenia, and IMHO his drumming on that album is the best drumming ever on this earth. Sorry if I speak out of turn, love you guys. Happy Holidays. Ps yes your drumming on the demos is very admirable too Towner….
