I’M A BOY Written by Pete Townshend Produced by Kit Lambert Recorded at IBC Studios, London, 1 August 1966.
IN THE CITY Written by Keith Moon and John Entwistle. Produced by Kit Lambert. Recorded at IBC Studios, London, December 1965.
I’M A BOY was part of an ambitious song cycle called QUADS set in the year 2000 where parents can select the sex of their children. “This woman orders four girls,” explained Pete, “and one of them turned out to be a boy, so she pretends it’s a girl … horrifying!” IN THE CITY is just Keith and John playing on the backing track. They had both failed to inform Pete and Roger that they had a session booked. Pete later added some guitar overdubs.
