London Quadrophenia Exhibition
The Who are pleased to announce collaborations with Liam Gallagher’s clothing label Pretty Green and Vespa today to celebrate and mark the highly-anticipated release of the ‘Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut’ boxset, which is due for release on November 14th (UK) and November 15th (US).
Pretty Green have designed a limited edition parka made legendary by London mod ‘Jimmy’ on the cover of The Who’s seminal album and will also showcase Pete Townshend’s archives of notes, desk diaries, photos and original lyrics from the making of ‘Quadrophenia’ alongside album artwork and outtakes in a never been seen before exhibition.
Speaking about the collaboration this week, Pretty Green’s Liam Gallagher stated: “As I’m a massive fan of The Who, and Quadrophenia being one of my favourite albums of all time, it’s an honour to be associated.”
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to Pete Townshend’s work and his inspirations behind the making of the seminal album, so don’t miss it. The exhibition will take place in the Pretty Green flagship store in London’s Carnaby Street and opens to the public on Thursday 27th October and will run until January 31st 2012.
By the way, we’re on the hunt for Quadrophenia-related merchandising to see if we can get a great exhibition together in London for you all. Can you help? We’d like to know what kind of stuff you have from the ‘Quad’ era – photos, posters, gig tickets, reviews, rare pressings, t-shirts etc. And what’s your most prized Who possession? Would you be willing to show it off? Let us know what you’ve got by getting in touch with us via email at infoumc@umusic.com.
To honour the album and its contribution to mod culture, legendary scooter company Vespa has also joined forces with The Who to build a stunning replica Quadrophenia scooter, based on the new PX125. Better yet – they will be giving it away in a free competition, full details to be announced soon. MODifications include whitewall tyres, one-off retro graphics, chrome kit, screen, mod-style extra mirrors & even a faux fur-covered seat. ‘Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut’ is released on November 14th in the UK and 15th in the US via Universal Music Catalog. To pre-order, go to www.www.thewho.com/quadrophenia.
