Hats off (and on) for a great show by The Who in Belfast

Photo – Belfast Telegraph

The Who are still at the top of their game. They performed Quadrophenia and greatest hits to a rapturous audience in Belfast last night. You’ve got to take your hats off to them.

(Pete, meanwhile, put his legendary pork pie hat back on for the show.)

It’s been 46 years since the last Who gig in Belfast – and well worth the wait ! Loved every part of the updated Quadropenia ,great visual imagery and effects to compliment a classic album.Roger Daltrey’s voice was in fine tune as was Pete’s guitar playing. To see The Who play live in 2013 with such vigour and commitment was really quite exciting. If you don’t have a ticket for the rest of the U.K. tour you may regret it ! Paul in Belfast.

Thanks Peter Roger and the Who for a stunning show in Belfast last night. Yesterday morning I had buried my good friend Sean who had battled Mesothelioma for four years. I really didn’t want to go anywhere near the show even though I had followed the band for forty years.
Thank God I Did!!!! For 2 and half hours,I felt like a seventeen year old again. Quadrophenia in this incarnation was Superb. And then the hits package.Wow!!
A great night to be alive..special mention of thanks to the great Belfast audience and to Vintage Trouble who were Superb.!!!!
Long live Sean, Long live Rock and Long Live the Who!!!

Amazing show last night guys. Thanks for coming back to Belfast and making dreams come true. Respect to Pete and Roger for not giving up after many bad times. Best wishes for the future, Chris

What a fantastic night – the biggest compliment I could make is to say it would be cheaper to buy the Quadrophenia CD as the performance was of studio quality. The set was magnificent

  5. Mark Doyle says:

They were absolutley amazing one of the best performances i have seen come back soon

  6. Kevin says:

What ever happened to Pete’s “Floss” project?

  7. Gary Kirby says:

Thank you for last night’s amazing show.

Never thought I’d get to see The ‘Orrible ‘Oo in my hometown.

    Simply stunning.

Don’t leave it another 46 years please.

  9. Nick & Becca Heath says:

A great show last night at Belfast, Pete seemed on particularly cheeky & irascible form, Roger’s voice was fab, and the band were great. We were bought tickets, and have been through a personal hell in recent weeks, so it was our first ‘night out’. Thanks guys. For 2+ hours, we were helped along our journey. And Tea & Theatre, was an unexpected, small wonder. Thanks again.

Was at the Belfast gig last night, absolutely awesome gig, in fact probably the best live performance of any band I’ve ever seen! Fabulous set, sound and production were brilliant and to include John and Kieth was pure genious! Thank you so much!

The first time the WHO have ever played Belfast.
They actually played at the Top-hat Ballroom in Lisburn back in 66.
The show seemed tighter than the concert in Dublin but I rate both shows on par and the buzz around the music scene in Belfast today was that anyone who decided not to go missed the best rock concert ever in Belfast.
    NOW THEY KNOW

  14. Neil Brussard says:

The Belfast concert was BRILLIANT! Loved the footage with John and Keith. Hope I can see The Who in concert again. The last number(from Endless Wire) with just Pete and Roger on the stage … Can’t be beat! Long Live THE WHO and LONG LIVE ROCK!

  15. YumikoWordley says:

I can’t wait to see them in 02 on the 15th ! I am listening Quadrophenia everyday at least twice a day now !

  16. Robin McCay says:

I was at the Dublin and Belfast concerts. I was 2nd row from the front in Dublin and I had a good tiered seat pretty close to the stage in Belfast. I thought Belfast was louder but then it’s a smaller arena than Dublin. I was captivated from start to finish at both gigs. Roger’s voice is utterly superb and he has the confidence and charisma to hold the audience for over 2 hours, easily. Pete’s voice is bang on as well as he ably demonstrated throughout. His guitar playing is still premier league.Scott Devours who is temping for Zak is a whirlwind of a drummer who is as exciting to watch as he is to listen to. Simon Townshend, (who I had the pleasure of meeting and getting a photo beside him with a signed copy of his cd,) is a monster guitarist in his own right. The rest of the team are every bit top quality musicians. Flawless, captivating, mesmerizing, magical and commanding are only a few adjectives I could use to describe these total heroes of rock. I love The Who…PERIOD!!

  17. Bryan Houston says:

What a show! Pete and Roger were amazing, best gig ever. LONG LIVE ROCK!

  18. Lynda Grace says:

    Brilliance never changes 🙂

  19. Dan says:

I saw both gigs in Ireland. Both equally as good in their own way.
Roger sounds great! Pete’s guitar playing is superb. And hats off to Scott on drums ..it’s been a lifelong dream to see the band in the U. K..
Though I must admit the crowd in Belfast was somewhat reserved. Until the show climaxed with the hits (more) at the tail end of the show. Thanks to Simon for taking the time for a chat and autograph at both shows. And to the many fans I met , shared some stories and photos..
    Long live The Who!!

  20. Stephen graham says:

  21. John W says:
