Wilko Johnson 1947-2022

“More than anything Wilko wanted to be a poet. I was lucky to have known him and have him as a friend. His music lives on but there’s no escaping the final curtain this time.

So it’s goodnight to Mad Carew, the uncompromising Bard of Canvey.”

I was lucky enough to be I. The crowd when Wilko and Roger performed Going Back Home at Shepherds Bush … it was R&B on steroids .. Wilko commanded such presence with his unique style and together with Roger what a sound, what an atmosphere , what a great complimentary partnership . I always hope they would tour .. alas just a fabulous memory . Thanks

Went to see Wilko at the Concert of the Kings in Wiltshire in 2017 – what a guitarist, straight playing no gimmicks, he could play anywhere with a band and without. R.I.P.

  9. David Swift says:

OMG I am so sad. Wilko was a one off. He made the sound of Dr Feelgood and when he partnered up with Rog then I was so made up. The Who being the greatest rock n roll band in the word ever

I’m a bit late commenting – only just saw this. The point Roger leaves out is of course that Wilko WAS a poet – a very good one, by anyone’s standards.
