This concert at UCLA was one of the most memorable shows I have been to because it was being recorded for the “VH1 Rocks the WHO” TV show.
There were celebrities everywhere, and the tribute acts that played WHO songs were incredible. The most notable in my mind were Incubus playing “I Can’t Explain” and Pearl Jam’s version of “Love Reign O’er Me”. Pearl Jam could issue a WHO-only tribute album, and it would go platinum because they played that well.
Anyway, my friend Tyler and I hung out with WHO bassist Pino Palladino on the concourse during the Foo Fighters’ jam to “Young Man Blues” – awesome. The strangest part of the show was during the WHO song “You Better You Bet”. Pete Townshend stopped in the middle of the song due to a technical problem, and they re-played the song from the beginning. I had never seen that at a concert before, then remembered the concert was being recorded for TV, so you the footage will be edited after the concert- strange.
All in all, one of the coolest WHO concerts because of the small venue and great tributes. Long Live Rock !!!
