Simon Townshend – Inside and Outside of Quadrophenia

Simon Townshend‘s had a busy year, playing in two bands – his own, in a series of well received concerts (some acoustic, some electric) and The Who, in which he is an integral part of the rhythm section. For his latest series of shows outside of The Who, Simon will be playing his own material – highly recommended listening to anyone who’s not familiar with it. He will also be introducing a segment into his shows in which he he will give audiences a unique insight into what it’s like to play with and be part of The Who, as the legendary band performs Quadrophenia.

“My brother Simon knew he wanted to be a musician from infancy”, says Pete Townshend. “He was a Who fan from 8 years old. Now he spends a lot of his performing life with The Who or with Roger when he does solo shows. Si has been in the Quadrophenia lineup since its first revival in 1996. Flesh and blood and the only member of the band that both Roger and I call a brother, his contribution to Quadrophenia in concert and his special role singing DIRTY JOBS gives him a unique view of the entire project. He met his wife Janie when she modelled as a Mod girl in the Who’s 1973 album booklet. Despite his own amazing career, a wonderful songwriter, and great guitarist, with The Who in Quadrophenia, Simon has become the 5th Jimmy.

Simon is thoroughly looking forward to a hectic month of playing.

“I’m really excited to be playing with The Who on the current Quadrophenia tour,” he told www.thewho.com .  “I’m also very excited to be taking my own band out on the road where I’ll be previewing material from my forthcoming album, some old favourites and perhaps a Who moment or two including an ‘Inside Quadrophenia’ segment. I’m also looking forward to meeting the fans after the show.”
